The base temperature settled a few degrees underneath the point of solidification at most places in the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh locale on Monday even as the mid year capital Srinagar encountered the coldest night of the season up until this point.
Srinagar recorded at least short 2.8 degrees Celsius the previous evening, an authority of the Meteorological Department here said.
He said the city encountered the coldest night of this winter up until now.
The night temperature dropped in the city from the earlier night’s short 2.4 degrees Celsius inferable from a reasonable sky.
The authority said different places over the valley and Ladakh area likewise experienced below zero night temperature on Sunday night.
He said the Pahalgam wellbeing resort, which fills in as one of the base camps for the yearly Amarnath yatra in south Kashmir, enlisted a low of less 5.2 degrees Celsius and was the coldest recorded place in the valley.
The renowned ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded at least less 4 degrees Celsius – down from less 3.4 degrees Celsius on the earlier night, he said.
The authority said Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a low of less 0.5 degrees Celsius, while the mercury in the close-by Qazigund settled at less 2.2 degrees Celsius.
He said the mercury in Kupwara, in north Kashmir, settled at a low of less 2.7 degrees Celsius.
Leh, in Ladakh area of the state, recorded a low of short 10.9 degrees Celsius, while the adjacent Kargil enrolled at least less 9.2 degrees Celsius, the authority said.
He said Leh was the coldest recorded place in Jammu and Kashmir.
The MET Office has said there is plausibility of light precipitation at confined places in the valley on Wednesday. PTI
