The Jammu and Kashmir Police Monday seized 180 kilograms of poppy husk from an oil tanker in Samba locale of the state.
Following up on a tip-off, a police group blocked the tanker at Tapyal town on Jammu-Pathankot interstate and amid its pursuit discovered poppy straw hid in one of its unfilled chambers, a cop said.
The poppy straw was being pirated to Punjab from Kashmir, he said.
The driver of the tanker, Karan Singh, an occupant of Himachal Pardesh, was captured and booked under the Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the officer said.
In a different episode, police captured a man, distinguished as Gulzar Ahmed nom de plume Gaggu of Bari Brahmana from the Sarore territory, subsequent to seizing 5 grams of heroin from his ownership, he said.
He also was reserved under the NDPS Act, the officer said.
