A chronicle has developed of radio trades between a Royal Navy frigate and Iranian military vessels, minutes before a UK-hailed oil tanker was seized in the Gulf on Friday.

In the chronicle, an Iranian vessel advises HMS Montrose it needs to investigate the Stena Impero for security reasons.

Chancellor Philip Hammond said the administration would seek after “each conceivable political course” accordingly.

Be that as it may, Iran’s minister to London cautioned the UK against heightening pressures.

Hamid Baeidinejad said in a tweet: “This is very perilous and rash at a delicate time in the area. Iran anyway is firm and prepared for various situations.”

The UK’s outside secretary has asked Iran to turn around the tanker’s “unlawful” seizure.

Jeremy Hunt said MPs would be refreshed on Monday about what “further measures” the legislature would take.
